Professor Peter Richmond

As Head of Division, Vaccine Trials Group, Peter is the main media spokesperson for Vaccine Trials Group research studies.

 Peter is a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Western Australia and a Consultant Paediatrician and Paediatric Immunologist at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children.

 Peter is also an Honorary Research Fellow at the Telethon Kids Institute.


Peter's major research interest is the evaluation of new vaccines designed to prevent bacterial and viral infections in the paediatric population and understanding protective immunity infectious disease in young children.


Peter has been involved in conducting clinical trials since 1996.


An experienced group of doctors, nurses, scientists, researchers, phlebotomists, pharmacists and administration staff support Dr Richmond at the Vaccine Trials Group.

HINI Swine 'Flu

In August 2009 we began testing a new vaccine to protect against swine 'flu in children aged between six months and eight years of age (inclusive). Three hundred and seventy children nationwide were part of the trial with 89 recruited in Perth. As a result, the HINI influenza strain was included in the 2010 seasonal 'flu vaccine.
